Have you ever heard of Gomasio?
No he’s not an Italian singer 🙂
Gomasio is this:
It is a mix of unhulled sesame seeds and salt. It is very nice topping for all your grilled vegetables, pasta dishes ad so on. A great way to replace parmesan cheese in vegetarian recipes. It is used in Japaneese cuisine and macrobiotic diet as it contains less salt than regular salt.
Gomasio
Ingredients:
- 1/3 cup of sesame seeds
- 1 Tbsp of salt
Instructions:
- Heat the sesame seeds in a frying pan until the seeds crack and before they start popping
- Let it cool in a small plate. Heat the salt for 30 seconds in the same pan using the existing heat (without turning the heat back on)
- Grind both the salt and sesame seeds using a spice grinder. Or if you like the old school method, you can use a mortar and pestle
- Keep the mixture in a glass recipient in your fridge. It will be good for several weeks!
