Let me present you Cuculmeca!

Everyday is a new discovery, especially here in Costa Rica. At the Puerto Viejo Saturday farmer’s market, we have discovered this magic tea with a funny name : Cuculmeca!

Scientifically named Smilax Officinalis, Cuculmeca is also known as sarsaparilla. Native to Central America, it grows as a vine and has traditionally been used for years as a blood purifier, anti-inflammatory and cleansing medicine.

It has amazing properties that help purify your body, get rid of toxins, and also:

  • cure skin problems such as psoriasis or eczema
  • prevent from kidney diseases and act as a diuretic
  • boost your immune system
  • help women against premenstrual pains
  • treat rheumatism and cold

Some people say that it can also be aphrodisiac and improve virility.

To make a tea for two:

Boil 3 of the dried chopped root pieces. Simmer for 15 minutes and drink in the morning on an empty stomach.

If the roots are not readily available in your country, you can try the powder. As usual, just make sure it’s 100% natural.
